I am a community leader and volunteer, animal lover, Mom, nature enthusiast, and a former litigation attorney. I have a B.A. in Public Policy from Hamilton College and a J.D. from Duke University School of Law and am licensed to practice law in North Carolina. Before becoming a member of the NC Senate, I worked at the Ada Jenkins Center, a local non-profit, and am a foster parent with a local animal rescue group.
I know that many of the critical policy issues we face are decided at the State level. Since the NCGA fell under ultra-conservative control in 2011, I've seen changes in North Carolina that are not good for families, small businesses, schools, fair elections, the environment and more.
I use my seat at the table to fight for affordable healthcare, common sense gun safety reform, reproductive freedom, clean drinking water, fair elections, public education investments, equity, and tax policies that are fair for working families. I look forward to continuing this work representing the people of SD41 in the current 2023-24 biennium.
My life exemplifies my commitment to hard work, the value of a quality education, and being a voice of reason and respect. I believe in the importance of taking personal responsibility, investing in the future and cultivating an inclusive community. In a time of political discord, I offer solutions that bring people together and make positive change for the people of the district.
